Senior Emily Buck is preparing to move to Belfast, Ireland after graduation this summer to join her long-time boyfriend, Spring Hill Alumnus Mick Abram. Abram is native to Northern Ireland, where he moved back to post graduation. Buck has visited Abram abroad five times and, after falling in love with both the country and Abram, decided to make the big move to join him in his homeland. When asked about their future living arrangements, Buck said, “We actually already have a house to live in. It’s probably a 15 minute walk from anywhere you need to be.”
While Buck is waiting on her passport, she has already sent her resume to a few recruiting companies. In Buck’s case, the process was already made a bit easier, because she has dual citizenship in both the United States and in the United Kingdom. Her mother is originally from England and applied for a birth certificate from the United Kingdom for her daughter as she was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Buck is thankful for the dual citizenship because she is eligible to apply for a passport without having to apply for a Visa as well.
Buck’s favorite spot in Northern Ireland is the Giant’s Causeway, she said, “It’s probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Also, there are so many parks in Northern Ireland that just have long, amazing trails. Just walking through them is so peaceful. Mick is from the coastal area, and on some really clear days, you can see Scotland from his house.”
Abram works at a tech company that has branches in the United States making it possible to move back, so Buck unsure how long she will live in Ireland. “I think I will move back eventually, but I’m just kind of seeing what it’s like. I might stay there forever, who knows. I just still have so many places on my bucket list I need to see first,” said Buck.
Buck is always ready for adventures and cannot wait to explore more with Abram. She said, “I will definitely miss my family and friends, but obviously they’re more than welcome to visit. And of course I’ll come back to visit.”
