Matthew Lash and Dionte Rudolph were recently elected as President and Vice President of the Spring Hill College Student Government Association and have proposed future plans for the campus and its students.
Lash approached Rudolph to run as his Vice President in June when both were still on campus as summer Resident Advisors. Lash explains in a video conference, “She is a great leader, somebody I looked up to, and somebody I knew who was very responsible.” Rudolph accepted the offer and decided to run as Lash’s Vice President. Rudolph explains that she loves Spring Hill because of “…the community. No matter where you or where you are from, you are going to always find a home somewhere on campus.” Rudolph is ready to put her love for Spring Hill into the SGA.
Lash has previously served on SGA as Secretary of the Treasury in the recent Fall and Spring semesters while Rudolph was appointed Senator in the Spring. With their previous experience, they feel that they are prepared to take on their positions. Junior, Sammy Favre, states, “I think these two are perfect for the job. They have the experience and the motivation to make this administration successful in implementing real and lasting change.”
At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, the two aim to work on making the freshman and incoming student feel welcomed. Because these students did not have a normal end to their senior year of high school, Lash and Rudolph aim to make the students feel as comfortable as possible. In addition, they also desire to make things normal for returning students on campus because the student’s school years did not end as they would have hoped either. Lash explains, “We want to get the Fall started off to a great start.” They plan on doing this by being proactive in regard to programming opportunities and engaging students. Rudolph tells SHC Student Media, “one of the biggest things that we would like to work on is making sure that SGA is active in the student’s lives.”
The two look forward to continuing the SGA administration by rearranging how some cabinet positions operate and by using external engagement to communicate with the student body. Lash says, “We are really excited to take a second look at what the student experience looks like right now and where SGA can step in and make a difference.”
