Spring Hill College, at least for a few days, become the home of Florida State University students earlier this month.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, student-athletes from FSU fled in preparation for the devastation of Hurricane Irma. The students were able to stay in empty halls in Walsh and Toolen for the few days they were here. SHC Residence Life staffers helped move the FSU students move in, setting up rooms with sheets and supplying towels and water for the athletes. The athletes were able to practice during their time here for their perspective sports. The students were also able to eat in the cafeteria and had access to Burke Library technology.

Holly Banning, the assistant director of Residence Life, explained what our students should expect, and that all students should be accepting and helpful for our guests, as is a part of our Jesuit mission at Spring Hill College.

Neal Studd, the swim team coach for FSU, commented on what this process has been like for his athletes, and how they enjoyed their time at Spring Hill College and the time they had to explore Mobile. Also two FSU swim team athletes, Madison Holland and Nika Balnk spoke about how grateful they are to have been able to stay at Spring Hill in a time of chaos. They spoke highly of their interactions with Spring Hill students, speaking of how nice and welcoming everyone was. The FSU students headed back to Tallahassee on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Their coach was hopeful that they would settle back in well and would not be returning home to too much damage.
